Korem 172/PWY Fails Again Attempts to Smuggle 2 Kg of Marijuana in the RI-PNG Border Area. (PNG- PAPUA NEW GUINEA)

Elitkita.com Jayapura News - Korem 172/PWY as Kolakops 172/PWY through the RI-PNG Yonif 132/BS Pamwiltasrat Task Force again thwarted an attempt to smuggle 2 kg of cannabis narcotics from two youths in the Papua border region.

The Ampas Post failed to smuggle illegal goods through routine sweeping activities, taking place on Jalan Trans Jayapura-Wamena, Kampung Ampas, Waris District, Kab. Keerom, Papua Province, on Friday (31/03) early morning.

Danrem 172/PWY Brigadier General J.O Sembiring as the Dankolakops when contacted, appreciated and was proud of his soldiers who have worked with full responsibility in securing the RI-PNG border area both in terms of security and anticipating illegal goods from entering Indonesia.

This appreciation, said the Danrem, should be given because the Task Force under Kolakops 172/PWY has repeatedly made achievements, as previously the Yonif 756/WMS Task Force had secured 5 Kg of dry cannabis ready for distribution from the hands of six young PNG citizens.

"I feel proud and grateful for the achievements made by the Kolakops 172/PWY Task Force. I hope that this achievement can be maintained and improved again and not be tarnished by small things that can tarnish the good name of the Indonesian Army," he said.

Regarding the rise of illicit goods such as narcotics from PNG entering Indonesia, the Danrem said he would continue to work together and collaborate with relevant agencies to protect the RI-PNG Border area from the practice of smuggling illegal goods.

"All parties, both the TNI-Polri, BNN, Customs and Immigration in this matter have committed to continue to synergize and collaborate in preventing the entry of these illicit goods which can damage the young generation of Papua. In addition, the role of the local community is also very much needed so that the efforts that we are currently doing can be achieved and successful," he concluded.

Meanwhile the Dansatgas Yonif 132/BS, Lt. Col. Inf Ahmad Fauzi in his written statement explained that the sweeping activity was carried out at 00.10 Wit. The two perpetrators who rode a Yamaha Mio motorbike from the direction of Wamena to Arso, were caught carrying 2 kg of dry marijuana.

"The two perpetrators, namely JL and SL, admitted that the illicit goods came from neighboring PNG. The plan is for the narcotics to be brought to Arso to be distributed by the perpetrators themselves," said Dansatgas.

The perpetrators and evidence will be handed over to the Police, in this case the Keerom Police for further investigation.

"I appeal to the public not to get involved in the smuggling of illegal goods, especially narcotics. We all know that the perpetrators will be given severe punishment and besides that drugs will damage the young generation of Papua, of course we don't want this. For this reason, I hope that the community can also be part of eradicating narcotics, especially in border areas," emphasized Ahmad Fauzi. (Ed. Rully)
